After giving up my job to be a full time stay at home mum, I discovered that there was still too much left of me to give.
I wasn’t missing the daily grind or the rat race, but at the same time, in my heart, I knew I wasn’t going back to it. It was time for a major life overhaul, time to stop being afraid of making decisions, and time to focus on what I wanted. I had been going to writing conventions, workshops and clubs, hoping to meet with someone? anyone? besides my parents and partner who critique with enthusiasm after reading 5 lines (bless). Someone who would recognise my flare, love and passion for writing. Sometimes, as the age old saying goes, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know!
I thought I was too late, I don’t have time to branch out now and meet and mingle to get the contact I need. My hubby then called me to say that Karen was coming to the Fermanagh writers to do a talk and answer some questions. So I went along and after the talk I relayed my rejections and disappointments to her, how every avenue was full of taking cuts and wanting percentages. I told her I was afraid in some cases to even share my ideas! I was so confused and needed help. I told Karen I would submit some work, I did and nervously waited on her response (in football land she is my Lionel Messi!). I was delighted to be offered a place in the MMH academy, it’s not only about the writing and perfecting it, it’s not only about book sales, it is a complete insight and journey through to the world of publishing. I was welcomed into the academy on the 15th June. Yes, this year!
I AM AVAILABLE FOR AUTHORS TALKS (at an extremely reasonable cost)
